Just Do It
Are you putting something off because you're afraid it's not good enough? That you don't know enough yet? That you could do a better job if you just learnt a little more first?
Well these are my exact thoughts right now, in writing this post, in creating this blog.
I keep putting it off because I'm afraid of what people might think, that it's not good enough, and essentially that I'm not good enough, because that's what it really comes down to at its core.
I know that I can't be alone in having these thoughts, so my question is how do you move past them and just do it? How do you overcome your fears and push through your doubt to do what you want to do even though you still have reservations? I've been thinking about this, because there is no way that I'm going to let these thoughts and limiting beliefs hold me back from accomplishing what I have set out to do any longer.
All the science tells us that the only way to get better at something is to practice, I’m sure you’ve heard the famous phrase "practice makes perfect", while I think that 'perfect' is an unattainable goal I do think that the phrase was onto something. You can only get better at something the more you do it. If I want to be a better writer, I can read as many books and blogs about it as I want, but I'll never actually improve until I start writing, until I start putting everything I've learnt into practice.
This also applies to wanting to run a marathon, or to lift a heavier weight, to become a better cook, painter, gardener, anything! You can learn as much about it as you want, but at some point, you'll realise that the only way you're actually going to improve is to actually get out there and 'Just do it'.
So, what is it that you need to get out there and just do? What limiting beliefs are holding you back? How are you going to kick them to the curb and finally do what you’ve always wanted to do? Do you have any advice that could help others who are struggling to put themselves out there?
