Five Essentials to Living a Sustainable Lifestyle

Five Essentials to Living a Sustainable Lifestyle

Over the past few months I have been really interested in the topic of sustainability after listening to the ‘low tox life’ podcast by Alexx Stuart, I became really committed to reduce the amount of single-use plastic I use on a daily basis, to reduce my environmental impact as well as the amount of toxins I expose my body too.

Each of the five products below have become essential for me in my journey to living a more sustainable life:

Reusable straws

I love to drink from a straw but didn’t like wasting all that plastic, so the perfect solution was to buy reusable ones. I use them all the time and much prefer them to disposable plastic ones, I bought a pair of metal ones, one straight and one curved at the top, that came with a cleaning brush and a travel pack to keep them clean in when I travel around. I got mine from a small market stall, but there are plenty of places where you can buy them from.

Reusable produce bags

Have you ever noticed how much plastic is used in the produce section of your local grocery store? It is ridiculous! Reusable produce bags are an absolute must, they are so small and easy to carry around with you, and make a huge impact on the amount of single use plastic you will use during your regular grocery shop.

Water Bottle

Carry around your own water bottle when you go out instead of buying a bottle of water, you will save money and the environment at the same time, it’s a win-win situation. There have been many new studies showing that most brands of bottled water contain microplastics, which negatively affect our bodies.

Reusable coffee cup

I’m not a coffee person and I’m really particular about how I like my tea, so I don’t tend to buy takeaway hot drinks when I’m out. On the off chance that I do; I always feel a bit uncomfortable with using the cup and then throwing it away when it’s empty, it just feels like such a waste. So, I bought the most gorgeous reusable coffee cup that I carry around with me, I usually will make up a hot tea before I leave the house and take it around in my Joco travel mug.

Foldable tote bag

I always try and carry around a foldable tote bag that I can keep in my handbag to use when I make an unplanned purchase, instead of using one of the plastic bags you usually get from shops. I bought mine from a small store in Kyoto train station while I was on vacation in Japan and absolutely love it, there are many places out there where you can find the perfect bag.
