A challenge that I set for myself for the month of January was to write down three things that I was grateful for, daily. I wanted to begin 2019 being truly grateful for all that I had experienced in 2018 and previous years, and for all the new experiences and opportunities that were coming in the new year.
I used this gratitude diary from Kikki.K. However, you can also write notes in your phone, use a notebook you already have, or just memorise them if you have a good memory.
The saying 'grateful people are happy people' definitely stood true during my month of gratitude. I found that I was in such a positive and happy place when I started being appreciative and practicing gratitude, I found that I complained less, became less frustrated when things went wrong, and had a much more positive outlook on life. I began feeling grateful for things that made me happy all throughout the day, and not only at the end of the day when I was filling out my journal, which was such an amazing feeling.
At first it may seem difficult to find things to be grateful for, but as you stick with it and make practicing gratitude a habit, it will become easier and you will find more and more to be grateful for. It could be as simple as being grateful for your health, for the delicious meal you had, a friend or family member, a book you read, or to be alive. There are no rules nor limits, no right or wrong.
When you are in a state of gratitude your entire outlook shifts, you begin to see things in a more positive light, the hard times are a little less hard, the difficult things are a little bit easier, and the day to day inconveniences are a little more bearable.
I challenge you to do your own month of gratitude, see the changes it makes in your life and your perspective. If you do choose to take on this challenge, I would love to hear all about it! Either leave a comment below or send me an email here, I can't wait to hear about your experiences with gratitude.
